  • John Ashton, Tara Mines,  has been awarded the prestigeous Medal for Excellence for 2011 from the Institute of Material, Minerals and Mining (IMMM).  This medal is awarded to those who have given a “…..conspicuous contribution, either during the year or cumulatively over a number of years, to the art, science and practise of the mining industry”.  Congratulations from everyone at the IAEG.
  •  This years IAEG Annual Conference will be held at the Radison Blu Hotel,  Athlone on May 14th and 15th.  The topic will be Rare Earth Elements and speakers include Iain Samson (U. Windsor) and Robert Linnen (UWO).  More details will follow.
  • At the recent AGM (14th January) the following Council was elected:  Graham Parkin (VP), Noleen Fox (Sec), Jeremy James (Treas), Kevin McNulty (PP), Katherine Ault, Gavin Berkenheger, Sarah Caven, Chris Reed, Mark Patton, and Emma Sheard.  Despite numerous requests for nominations and invitations the position of President remains unfilled.  In the interim Kevin McNulty will be acting President.  Any current member interested in filling the position should contact Noaleen Fox.
  • An EGM will take place in February (date and venue to be announced) to approve the 2010 accounts.
  • Activity on the SEG-IAEG Zinc 2010 Special Publication is progressing well with most authors nearing the completion of their first draft.  We are currently on schedule for a September release date. Editors for the publication are Stephen Piercey and Sandy Archibald.
